After legendary OPM artist Jim Paredes responded to the perceived threat he received from television and radio broadcaster Erwin Tulfo, Tulfo responded by challenging the singer to a fight.
Recently, Tulfo advised the Paredes family to seek protection for Jim after his actions during the EDSA Revolution Anniversary rally – stating that the singer’s life may be in danger.
“Paliwanag niyo sa kanya [Jim Paredes] baka masaktan ka o masagasaan ka, mabundol ka o makalimutan mo ng umuwi o ang masakit pa baka masaksak ka sa ginagagawa mo,” Tulfo was quoted in saying.
Here’s a video of Tulfo’s hostile comments. The quote starts at 12:03 minutes in.
Mr. Paredes then tweeted his response to the alleged threats and requested that TV5 suspend Erwin Tulfo for inciting violence against the APO Hiking Society member.
Ironically, Tulfo who was the one most motivated to visit violence upon Paredes after the singer’s response went viral.
Specifically, the radio host challenged the OPM singer to a fistfight outside Tulfo’s radio station on March 27. He dared Paredes to arrive at his workplace within two hours.
“Jim Paredes pumunta ka nga dito sa istasyon, matatapos itong programa ko alas dyis ng umaga. Antayin mo ko dyan sa labas, lalabasan kita,” Tulfo said.
“Tignan ko yang tikas mo, yang mga tirada mong look at me look at me ako ang look at me-hin mo mamaya dyan sa labas ng gate. Susundutin ko yang mata mo” Tulfo added.
The radio host admitted it would be the first time in his life that he would not show courtesy to the elderly – and would instead beat Paredes.
“For the first time in my life, hindi ko gagalangin ang isang matanda, bubugbugin kita” he said.
Tulfo strongly believes that Paredes and friend Kenzo Jakosalem lodged a complaint because of his vocal criticisms against Vice President Leni Robredo. It can be remembered that Jakosalem began an internet petition to remove Tulfo from the air for lambasting the VP.
Tulfo invoked the right to free speech as his counter-point.
