Christian pastor Light Monyeki from Soshaguve, South Africa is being condemned for encouraging his congregation to drink water laced with Rattex rat poison.

On February 4th during the Grace Living Hope Ministries seminar, he claimed that the water would “nourish their bodies” and “heal their sickness.”

The church reported that he convinced many of his flock to partake of the rat poison after he took a sip himself.
The church posted pictures of Monyeki pouring the poisoned water down his follower’s throats on Facebook.

The post was captioned with: “The man of God, Prophet Light Monyeki demonstrates power of faith by causing congregants to drink Rattex; deadly poison to show forth their faith.”

“We do not need to proclaim faith because we are believers.” Monyeki said, “If nyaope boys can smoke Rattex for more than eight years, who are we? Death has no power over us”.
Monyeki was referring to nyaope, a widely used street drug in South Africa. Nyaope is made from an assortment of ingredients, including low-grade heroin, rat poison, and various detergents.

Rattex can be fatal to humans, as it prevents the clotting of blood in the body. This means anyone who consumes the rat poison could potentially bleed to death.
Unsurprisingly, many of his followers began to complain of stomach pains in the evening. Soon, five people were declared dead while thirteen were rushed to the nearest hospital. Reportedly, Monyeki refused to take the blame for the deaths, saying: “Too much of any good thing could be bad.”

Netizens have leveled strong criticism against the prophet’s careless actions.
Some of the comments are:
Sampson Gyebi Dankwa wrote: “This pastor is SICK! Rat poison to your congregants? Have you tasted it? First heal yourself from whatever is causing you to feed your members with a deadly substance.”
Brenda Crooks wrote: “Why are you giving people poison in the form of Rattex. You are ungodly and an absolute disgrace to your so-called profession. SHAME ON YOU!”
Rose Ramahlafi wrote: “This is disgusting. People are abusing the name of God, and the people who are ignorant of their faith will perish in the process.”
While authorizes have begun to investigate the incident, no arrests have been made yet and Monyeki remains free.

What a dreadful and disturbing turn-of-events. What do you think of this reckless pastor? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
