Netizen MJ Quiambao Reyes said that this should have been the responsibility of Philippine National Police Chief Ronald dela Rosa.
"Chief PNP Bato, I love you po, but clearly he was under PNP custody. Responsibilidad mo po'ng protektahan siya so he can spill the beans and testify against those other narco politicians. Balik ka na po ng Pinas. Now na--and please clean your ranks." she wrote on her Facebook page.
Duterte supporter Sass Rogando Sasot also reacted by posting "Mayor Espinosa, the father of Kerwin Espinosa, has been shot this morning So who is trying to silence the mayor?"
She also said that Espinosa might have had something big to reveal.
"This is so suspicious and is highly possible as a rub-out. So who wants to silence him? I doubt if it is the State since it would have been easier to just kill him while he was not yet in jail." he said.
Krizette Laureta Chu also posted and reacted about the incident and said it was frustrating how the mayor was not given protection.
She noted that Dela Rosa was in Vegas for the fight of boxer and Senator Manny Pacquiao's fighting match.
"Not to be a slave driver or anything, but I hope Gen Bato sees the drug issue to conclusion and not take breaks before that. Ang Presidente nga di pa nagbabakasyon." she said.
"Gen Bato, the last time you were out of the country, the riot at US embassy happened. This time, the death of Espinosa. Please dont go out of the country anymore." she added.
Meanwhile, the investigation for the shoot-out is being undergone.
